Finally A Game Parents Can Get Behind!

July 3, 2008 by Dr. Chris Axon

Unless you have been living under a rock, if you have school age children you should be highly aware of all of the new gaming consoles out on the market. There are Playstations I, II, and III, PSP’s, Gameboy’s, X-Box’s, X-Box 360 and now there is a system called the Wii pronounced “We”.

If you are like me, you grew up in a time where “Outside” was your gaming console. In the summer I spent every minute of every day at the pool or in the woods playing with my friends. I would only take a break to get a glass of water and for my mom to slap a sandwich in my hand on my way back out the door.

In today’s warped society, I can’t imagine letting my kids alone outside for 1 hour for fear of social deviants hurting my children.

While the Wii game system has been on the market for a few years, they have recently developed an attachment/program that I think is ingenious. It is called Wii “FIT”. It is an exercise program disguised as a video game. To play you must run in place jump stretch and bend to perform the required tasks of the game.

Nintendo has brought “Outside…Inside”. I figure give them what they love while giving them what they need. It’s kind of like when they were babies, mix the strained pea with the applesauce.

Nintendo is on the right track…Keep it up!
